THE GOD TRAP is exactly why God Needs to Go Rogue…and maybe Obama does too!
The God Trap is the one where God is supposed to be Great Ruler and Protector of All and we get to be the obedient subjects or rebellious teenagers. The God Trap is where Ego and Spirit are at war with each other–Ego demanding its absolute separateness and Spirit demanding complete agreement and oneness.
The God Trap has nothing to do with God, and everything to do with our projections on God and our leaders. “Protect us, save us, care for us”…until, smothered by your protection, we earn the right to rebel.
The God Trap is much like the Parent Trap. There is no winning for Obama. The more Obama saves and protects us, the more the rebel teen in us will whine about big government and the cost of it all, while the obedient servants will keep on trying to drive together what will not go together.
What if we let God out of the trap? What if we heard God say, “I can’t protect you. I can’t stop earthquakes and sunami’s and terrorists. But I’ve given you everything you need to work together to solve these problems. And I care that you BE the greatness you received in your Begetting.”
What if Obama helped us see and give up our whining and rebellion and obedient servitude in exchange for…faith in the strength and power of American ego and spirit begotten for our benefit, not for our division and destruction.
No food or water, four days and counting. Almost 50 years ago we land a man on the moon and we still can’t get food and water to people on an island not far from Florida?
God, do we expect you to drop manna from heaven while we sit in bureacratic meetings for days on end, telling traumatized and severely wounded people they must wait until we decide on safe distribution areas? Then there will be problems with trucks getting through…Is there no other way?
Couldn’t we just drop thousands of packages of light crisp rice and tubes of water for miles alongside the disaster area? We are worried about people trampling each other while they die of hunger and thirst? God, help us all.
God, do you send earthquakes and floods to Haiti? Have you kept Haitians down so that their only survival depends on burning every last tree on the island for charcoal to cook or sell?
Do you punish people for not worshipping the right god? Do you allow all the political upheaval that Haitians have suffered through for so many years?
Do take out Your wrath on rich nations by ravaging small ones, children, widows, the poor?
Or are you just a God-With-us? Like parents with grown children, not much you can do to stop us from destroying ourselves and each other? You don’t disappear in despair and disgust.
You just keep on being there, not waiting for worshippers to get in line…but waiting, like parents do, for your grown children to come to their senses and care about each other. You are so NOT about us worshipping You.
Having people worship You, God, was never the issue, never the objective. All You have ever wanted is for us to see how our tendency to worship is the very essence of idolatry. Idolatry, a disease which eats at the core of us, whether we worship our bodies, material goods, status or gods who have control over us.
You are certainly not a helicopter parent. We get in messes; we’ve got to get ourselves out of them by realizing that we are one with each other, like it or not. We ought not do to the other what we would not have them do to us.
God, You think we can learn from each other? Learn from You Being There WITH US???
